BLACK SMOKE DRAGON (Galicia, Spain)

Raw heavy stuff thom the dark corner of Spain.

"We are two guitars (Berto, LLoymi), bass (Oskar) and Drums (Álex). For this recording, one friend (Juanin) help us with keybord arrangements.

Black Smoke Dragon is an instrumental spanish band from de northwest of this country (Galicia). We started together at 2009, doing some instrumental jams, with Stoner/Sludge/Doom influences. We love bands like Eye Hate God, Sleep, Corrosion of Conformity, Crowbar, Down, Saint Vitus, Mastodon and Black Sabbath, of course. We have quick songs, slow sounds and later we introduce psychedelic arrangements. Bands like Ghost, Church of Misery, Kylesa,...we love this noise and shit man! Of course, we play on another bands too. Álex is the exdrummer of Oddy Lane (metal/alternative), Lloymi plays guitar on Arsenaut (Rock/Metal) and Drums on ID3M (Metal), Oskar has postrock projects and plays on ID3M too. And Berto plays on ID3M and Arsenaut too. "

GALVANO – TWO TITANS

Devouter Records are proud to present the release of the colossal debut album Two Titans from Swedish Sludge-metallers Galvano, on the 5th November.

"‘All these songs are personal, all the way throughout the record. They are about personal matters and demons. It's about finding the darkest corners, the dark lord within and to show up for battle. Portrayed as two titans in constant battle: Good/Evil, Darkness/Light and so on. And sometimes wanting to embrace either side. It's about knowing when your mind is pulling tricks and being able to stop it. It's also celebrating our musical force as a duo.’"

COFFINFISH - 2012 - EP

Post-rock/Sludge band from the great city Krakow, PL.

"The band was formed on the initiative of Cthulhu - the high priest of the Great Old Ones in the sunken city of R'lyeh. It came out of the water at the beginning of 2011, and chosen Krakow as its base. Coffinfish task is to maintain worship of the Cthulhu through its music and to keep waiting for his return."

ULTRA ZOOK - 2012 - EPUZ

"ULTRA ZOOK plays a sort of "island music"  in a Fukushima style rather than in The Caribbeans style. This unique drums, keyboard & guitar/bass trio utilize an apocalyptic tropical groove in their post-modern sound. Their stage surreal atmosphere is made of pitched vocals and UV lights, as if the Muppet Show Doozers were suddenly colonizing Star Wars, a beat-up Tahiti was starting to glow and discharging toxic vapors, the poisonous labyrinth from Cube was growing around the musicians and swallowing you one by one."

NAÏVE - 2012 - THE END

"Three persons. Three tormented souls. Three happy souls. Three desperate souls. Violence and combat, contemplation and sadness, junction between the ocean and the sky. Mox (Le Minus), Drums and electro, Jouch (Agora Fidelio, Phantom Status) Guitar, Voice and electro, and Rico (ex-Mary Slut) Bass. No limit. From Metal to Synthetic music, from violins to Trip-hop. Melody is a leitmotiv, Rythm is fuel. Let's be Naïve, once."

Direwolves - 2012 - Me From Myself, To Banish

"Hailing from Lorient (western France), the band merges modern hardcore, crust and screamo on its debut EP "Me From Myself, To Banish". Recorded by producer/sound engineer Amaury Sauvé (Birds In Row, As We Draw, Comity…) at La Senelle, these six songs find the perfect balance between emotion and heaviness, reminding of bands such as Alpinist, Lewd Acts or Killing The Dream. The artwork has been designed by Fortifem, and pre-orders will be up on 18th october."

GREY MOUSE - 2012 - TRIP

Great Psychedelic band from Moscow.

"The band “Grey mouse” was created by Dmitry Rybachev and Alexei Chunikhin. During its existence, with a different composition its members, the band recorded and released two studio albums “No masks” – 2005 (Jagi Jagi Records, (Russian)), “Blind and Ugly” of 2008 (BRP(Russian))., gave a large number of live performances in Moscow and other cities, participated in various festivals, preserving and maintaining its own style.
The band is not afraid of experiments. Along with the song-like genre, Grey Mouse is also actively experimenting with noise and background music. The band also collaborated with the Film Club, “Art Cinema” (Moscow), making live voicing of silent movie masterpieces of the early 20th century (the so-called “live film shows”). Now musicians are preparing to release their third album, titled “Trip”.

Official release and presentation of the album is expected in autumn 2012. ( But it is already available for download at this link http://the-russian-rock.com/grey-mouse-trip-2012/ ). The CD will be released by the independent label Mylodon Records (Chile). This label also works with cult South American psychedelic-rock band Aguaturbia formed in 1968.
Recordings took place in the studio of A. Bochko’s Creative Centre (Moscow) (where the previous album «Blind & Ugly» was recorded). There were a lot of new experiments. New instruments were used: didgeridoo, sitar, jaw harp, female vocals. And now you can hear the echoes of oriental music the blues motifs on habitual rock base.

Also one of the songs (instrumental composition «Snow (Spiral Walk)») from the new album of Grey Mouse will be released in a compilation album «Psychedelic World Music, Discovery,vol.1». This compilation album released by Trail Records (USA) will introduce psychedelic bands from all over the world.
The CD release is expected in august 2012."

ASIDEFROMADAY- 2012 - CHASING SHADOWS

" 4 years after the acclaimed "Manufactured landscape", the five French progressive postcore alchemists make their return with a brand new album which relies on power, aggression, atmosphere and raw emotions.

5 black shadows delivering dark and dynamic modern heavy music since 2000. Transporting the listener to some landscapes, various but invariably grazed. There is one constant thing, the weather: grey and threatening. With a sound firmly rooted in postcore/post-metal/sludge, ASIDEFROMADAY relies just as heavily on ambience, atmosphere, and power as it does dark complexity, brutal aggression and raw emotion. An original entity, ASIDEFROMADAY delivers music that consumes the listener with massive and hypnotic waves of sound.
This brand new creature has got a name : "Chasing shadows" and will be unleashed on october 5th (CD/LP/Digital) through Division Records (Dirge, Kehlvin, Unfold, Process of Guilt, YOG...). From now two excerpts from this upcoming album are available for streaming on Bandcamp.

Limited pre-orders are up directly from the Division Records WEBSTORE.

PROMETHEE - 2012 - Sickness Unto Death

Swizz crabcore for younger fellas who suddenly came on this blog )

"Born in the spring of 2008, Promethee is a five-piece of hardcore/progressive/metal band burning heavy riffs in the heart of the Swiss metal scene.

After only a few months of writing their first songs, these guys, based in Geneva, started to play as many shows as they could, gaining allready loads of local support from bands, friends and promoters, before to release a first self-titled EP in 2009.

Slowly but surely the band found it's own personal sound in order to record a full-length album. Promethee doesn't have a perticular political, religious, philisophical message of any kind, but writes about the things that touches and effects them in this world and through their lives with the music they create.

This fall, the band will released its debut album, "Nothing happens, nobody comes, nobody goes" out on october 13th in CD edition."

Le Minus- 2012 - Make My Day

Cool funky tunes from Toulouse

"This fusion/rock power-trio from the French city of Toulouse disrespectfully sums up two decades of alternative rock and fusion. After a first 3-tracks EP in 2009 ("Rancour is a gift") and one year later its debut full-length album,"The Book Of V", Le Minus unleashes in 2012 its third recorded effort, entitled "Make my day",

Their style ? An explosive cocktail of energy, rock'n'roll instinct, groove and power, illustrated by the scathing snarl of a neurotic Frenglishman. Highly ecommended for those with a taste for the deeply unusual."

Cultura Tres - 2011 - El Mal Del Bien  (2012 - CD re-issue)

2 reasons to rspkt Argentina :
 1) Hugo Chavez is president once again
2) Cultura Tres made 2nd album last year on vinyl and Devouter recs. are pressing the CD.

"Devouter Records are proud to present the release of Cultura Tres stunning album El Mal Del Bien on the 12th November. The album was originally released last year, but has only been available direct from the band on vinyl. Devouter Records will be releasing the album on CD and vinyl with full distribution.
El Mal Del Bien - The Lowdown
El Mal Del Bien delves deeper into the dark atmospheric which the band had already shown at moments in debut their album La Cura. The daring album opener “Propiedad de Dios” sets the mood: it sounds like the soundtrack of a tragic cult movie. The songs that follow evoke the witchery, slavery, oppression and religious madness that influence the South American continent to this day. Being a concept album adds another dimension to the individual songs. A patient listener will be dragged into a hallucinating trip around the insane world the album paints.Cultura Tres are now hailed as the national rock/sludge pride of Venezuela. From their first EP "Seis" (2007) the band already outgrew the South American continent. But only after releasing debut album "La Cura" in October 2008, the band started to get noticed worldwide. During the preceding year of rigorous composing, Cultura Tres incorporated many influences into their sound, ranging from sludge to doom metal and from death metal to classic rock.Important magazines in Europe and Japan praised “La Cura” for its dark and original music, and Metal Hammer magazine even selected Cultura Tres as the month's global discovery. The release tour took the band during 18 months across Europe, South America and to the first well-received shows in Japan. In that period the band also released three video clips that gained them a world-wide cult following in the underground doom & sludge scene. The most important underground and mainstream media are unanimously praising the unique direction the band has taken. It also led to the band being requested to deliver a track for the Global Metal CD of Metal Hammer (in the Sept. 2011 issue), and many appearances on TV and radio with interviews and specials, as well as an appearance on the closing day of the already notorious DesertFest 2012 in London (alongside Orange Goblin, Karma to Burn etc).  So far this year the band have played Venezuela, Argentina, Peru, Holland, UK – with more UK

dates planned for November:
Nov 15th – Colchester @TBA (w/ TELEPATHY & OLD MAN LIZARD
 Nov 16th – TBC
Nov 17th – Birmingham @The Asylum (w/ SLABDRAGGER, GRIMPEN MIRE, UNDERSMILE and more)
Nov 18th – London @ The Purple Turtle (w/ TELEPATHY, ABRAHMA, SOLARIS, ENOS and more)"

EGGNOGG seeks to fund the release of their forthcoming full-length album, "You're All Invited," on vinyl record.

If you have some $2000 extra you can:
1. help one robust band to record and release a vinyl
2. Get tons of goodies from the band  plus McDonald's menu challenge. The band members will each attempt to consume every item on the menu, and the event will be filmed and dedicated in your honor.

Is not it worth it?

"In the time since the 2011 release of their second album Moments in Vacuum, EGGNOGG has been hard at work writing and recording this follow-up, full-length LP entitled You're All Invited.
You're all Invited is a conceptual record beginning with Rituals in Transfigured Time. A 22-minute conglomeration of five pieces that transition seamlessly, Rituals in Transfigured Time will fill up the entire first side of the record. The second side of the record will begin with a song entitled Meshes of the Afternoon, and the eponymous Egg Nogg will conclude the album. Egg Nogg is a composition which encompasses such a remarkable contrast of apocalyptic sludge and hard-rock riffery that the band is proud to consider it their theme song.
On the whole, You're All Invited is sure to be EGGNOGG's heaviest, trippiest, and well-composed work to date, and it maintains the spirit of refined rawness and reinvention that has defined the band's music since their debut album in 2009.
The great number of fans seeking vinyl copies of the band's previous albums has made it clear that You're All Invited deserves a proper record release. This will be the band's first vinyl release, and the members of EGGNOGG are very excited for the opportunity to put the record out in its most natural and appropriate form, complete with full-sized artwork."

Castravalva - 2012 - You're Not In Hell. You're in Purgatory My Friend 12'' Review

Castrovalva is a super awesome trio from Leeds, UK.
They have done one mini-album, one big, one single, and two waxy splits.
This hot cake curiously named "You're Not In Hell. You're in Purgatory My Friend" was cooked in three different ovens : cd, green vinyl and orange tape.

Fabulously epic, Instantly classic, Futuristic noise tunes....yes, you will read such a crap from the pages of some expensive modern metal magazine soon...

It's really hard-to-describe the perfect mix that makes my ears cum. But I should try.
These guys should have studied in one class with Mars Volta and Fantomas on the noiserock, 90's rapcore and dubstep departments.

Don't be a pussy. Listen to this & you don't want it to stop.

PS. I really like how the " " ends.

Fistula - 2012 - Nothern Agression Review

This review was written by Den.

My first acquaintance with the “Northern Aggression” happened when we decided to venture forth to the Chernobyl Alienation Containment Area. And Fistula’s opus became a good accomplice to this suicide trip. The first track, “The Spider” was perfectly accompanying the roaring engine of my old Junker as I bottomed the accelerator driving forth to the northern lands long liberated from the burden of the modern society.  As Idrove, the ferociously brutal   and overwhelmingly sick sludge-crust tunes were blowing from the speakers making me totally immerse in the impenetrable wall of sound that the first track delivered.

Next one, “The Fang” is a good follow –up to the opener.  Initially the song starts from ferociously heavy sludge. It got me almost floored when I got out of my Junker and stepped upon the radioactive soil. The tunes are so badass-heavy and catchy that the first spin left my craving for heaviness completely unfulfilled. I spinned it over and over again until the blood started to sip from my ears. Grab this piece if you are suffering from excessive alcohol abuse.  It will not take long until you puke the shit out of your belly.

With next track, “Black Sunday”, the band starts to pick the pace again.  Utilizing catchy and sharp hardcore-crust and rarely entering sludge territory this piece of filth would be a good choice if you feel like it’s just about time to shake old bones.  Next one, “Harmful Situation”   uses the same formula extending upon the crust-fest of the previous one. However, it quickly evolves into merciless downbeat bad-assary making you fight for your life from the giant mammoth threatening to trample you to death. Having escaped the pre-historic menace, don’t expect to get a respite as the next monster “Kanker Nose” will stop at nothing but annihilate your fucking eardrums with the lethal dose of ferociouslyheavy sludge hatred.  It is the longest track on the album so get ready to take a challenge.  It gets slower and slower towards the end, spawning a huge herd of   previously mentioned mammoths and only those who have a good record of Fistula –worshipping will survive.  The last track is akin to the first one, it even bears the same moniker. It is a good heavy crust attack  allowing the survivors of the mammoth holocaust to run for their petty lives.

I think, that the amount dope of exceeded all visible levels when this words were written. Radioactive Chernobyl Mammoth evoked by the excessive consumption of hallucinogenic mushrooms did what they had to.  A good piece of crusty sludge. 8.5/10

I'm sure you can't get over this :

"Just in time for the 'Northern Aggression' tour, FISTULA 'Northern Aggression' is now available as a deluxe CD limited to 150 copies only. Each disc will he housed in a DVD case, containing a 6"x5" woven patch. In addition to 'Northern Aggression,' for the first time 'Loser' is available as well as their cover of MENTORS 'Going Through Your Purse.' Only 50 copies will be available through the PATAC Records Distro, the rest will be sold at the 'Northern Aggression' shows."

Bastard of the Skies - 2012 - Tarmation REVIEW

Here's a massive review done by Den.

Hailing from Blackburn, Lancashire, Bastard of the Skies  have embarked in a mission to annihilate our eardrums with the   filthy and  devastating  sludge attack since its formation back in 2006. Having released 2 albums, an EP and Split LP, the band has concocted an unique sound, which although clings to the well-recognized clichés but at the same time has the touch of its own. Wielding monstrous, gargantuan riffs and occasionally turning to melodic respites,  the first  band's self-titled opus gathered a devoted fan base  throughout UK and on the other side of Atlantic and received good critical acclaim  over the  web. But it was not until 2010 when the band was bent to unleash its next filthy beast, and another piece of unrelenting down-tuned goodness bearing the moniker "Ichor Ichor" saw the "light". The album was a huge piece of brutal and uncompromising heaviness delivering 9 tracks of straight-to-your face filthy and groovy sludge. Now the time has come for the next generation in the breed of ear-splitting monsters to emerge out of the bottomless ocean, and that's where the 3-rd full-length of British sludge monsters arrives.

Tarnation, that's how the band called its upcoming opus, is exactly what the name implies. The artwork is what immediately bursts into eye. Made by the infamous Sean Schock, known for its collaboration with Yob, Buzzoven, Sourvein, Coffins and many others, the artwork immediately sets the mood of impending doom, portraying the spiky scales of the sea  serpent protruding  from the filthy boiling waters long devoid of equilibrium. The beast is faceless and unknown to the unsuspecting masses, as if it is the embodiment of shadowy forces which are spinning the wheels of this decaying world. Only spikes are visible, while the other parts of its monstrous body are hidden beneath the dark surface of the sea.

From the opening note the doubts are immediately put aside, as the opener "Drug Monarch" kicks in with crawling wall of down-tuned grooves. Tumbling bass and pounding drums, coupled with desperate roaring of Matt Richardson set the tone of the song punishing listener with the 5-minutes of tight & sick grooves. The riff gets almost repetitive form time to time, but the unrelenting heaviness compensates any drawbacks making the listener fully submerge into the vortex of infectious riffs.

The next track, "A punch into your fucking lungs", quite lives up to its name. Starting with High-on-Fire styled grooves, the song oscillates between heavy parts and melodic respites, whose purpose is nothing but pave the way to even more devastating and monstrous riffs.

The next one, "(Roasted in the Depth of) Sloar” is a slight retreat from the previous monsters, however it is not less heavy. The song is slow and epic piece of sickening downtempo sludge,  with some parts bearing resemblance  to those of the last opus of Australian sludgers Clagg, while the rest of the song picks the pace closer to the end delivering a set of dark and foreboding tunes, as if the sea beast is about to unleash it's fourth tentacle.

The next opus, "Bastard Sabbath" adheres to the tradition of the previous song, with the tentacle of the beast slowly wiping out all the resistance it faces on its way. The track is heavy and straightforward, with the riffs getting so infectious that the first spin left me craving for more.

The title track “Tarnation” is an amalgamation of down tuned and apparently feed backed noises which get accompanied by occasional drumbeats closer to the end.  The track sometimes enters the drone territory, however, it still manages to evoke dark and apocalyptic atmosphere, which gets even more intensifying closer to the end.  What comes to mind here is that the beast is halfway to its destination, and no force can prevent in from consuming our fragile world.

But there is still much left for the beast to face on its dark path, as next nail in the coffin is hammered with the “Repugnance”, which is probably the most infectious and grooviest track on the entire album. The track paves its way with the endless barrage of pounding riffs leaving me in the state of complete head-banging for a number of repetitive spins.

The next tracks “Locklear” and “Snapmare” utilize the same formula, but what really distinguishes from the mood of the entire album is the closer “What Are You Looking At Dicknose”?  The track starts with the noisy intro with occasional Lovecraftian whispers protruding from the roaring background, but quickly evolves into an epic riff-worshipping pilgrimage boosted by additional feedback, double vocals and noise. It will apparently be chosen as a closer for the upcoming live sets, at it perfectly summarizes all what these filthy British sludgers have been trying to convey to the listeners. The beast has completed the prophesy, the world left in smoldering ruins, and the set stage for the next era to emerge…. to wait for another beast to incarnate the TARNATION of the generations to come. For fans of High-on-Fire, Clagg, and all worshippers of  heavy sludge goodness.  9/10.

Album is out 1st October on Future Noise Recordings (FUN012)

ELECTRIC MAGIC LABEL

Ladies and Gents.
Let me introduce you fresh and perspective label from Berlin, Germany.
Chris from Samsara Blues Experiment started it some time ago.

"ELECTRIC MAGIC is dedicated to Psychedelic/Retro/Stoner/Fuzz/Heavy/Doom-ROCK, basically a promotional site and recordlabel.
We started as a webzine under the moniker Generated X in March 2006. Since then we featured hundreds of bands from Classic 60s and 70s Rock, to Psychedelic, Stoner, Doom and familiar genres. We did all the basic journalistic work plus the releases of samplers which contained a selection of the best releases of each period.

Due to general lack of time the regular magazin had been discontinued since early 2011 and later on turned to the new main focus and purpose which is releasing and promoting a few selected artists, that in our opinion deserve all the attention they can get. All of this is much more a labor of love than a strict business, which helps to get the best out of our efforts."

Here're first LPs that comes from the wing of the label :

House of Aquarius - The world through bloodred eyes" lp

A long lost episode in stonerrock. sounds like: gas giant, dozer, awesome machine
Original album of this german band was released in  2003 as a CD.
And now it comes on the format as it should be. 150 red and 250 black waxy babies were born.
Hopefully the band can make a reunion soon and write some new smashing stonerrock tunes.

Heat - 2012 - Heat LP

Dog Moon Howl - 2012 - Strip-Lit Hell EP

Heavy shit outta Glasgow, UK
3 talanted dudes formed this band like a year ago.
Rocking is their business....Business is good.
It's like a 40-year-old aged solid whiskey. Rich bouquet. Nothing to add.

Craig Hughes is one of the members of Dog Moon Howl.
He's the man of blues. Take the direction for Seasick Steve, Left Lane Cruiser, Mississipi Alsstars...and you get to the place. Shame on me. I've discovered his lo-fi projects too late.
Don't make the same mistake and push on the links below :

Chained - 2012 - Demo

We've posted their stuff in Januaty 2012.
So welcome back Nashville  punxters !
coo demo indeed.

"Nashville hardcore band Chained released their "2012 Demo" this afternoon on Spaghetti Spaghetti Records. They released a split with In Fidelity in January and will have a 7" out with us in the spring."

The Ocean Doesn't Want Me - 2012 - As the dust settles

"The Ozark Witch stems out of me trying to plug holes in my head. Unfortunately the plugs consist of noise, drone and found sounds.
The Ozark Witch was started in 2011 by Robin Mc Donald from Pretoria, South Africa with the sole purpose of filling in stop gabs between his other band's (The Ocean Doesn't Want Me) writing, gigging and recording.
The musical medium chosen falls within the ambit of noise, drone and the ambient genres. The conceptual medium chosen reflect nostalgia, solitude and isolation inspired by the work of Kerouac, Kafka, Vonnegut and Camus.
My current modus operandi is to release short free digital EP’s (consisting of between 2-4 songs) every 4/5 months."

Bone Dance - 2012 - self-titled

Another good record from one of my fave labels -  Throatruiner records !

Good dose of Brutality comes from the US.
Fans of Converge/Botch/Knut/Trap Them you know what to do with the links below.
Click and buy this fuckin' record !

“Bone Dance, a ritually charged and menacingly DIY band seeped in all things heavy, is rising from the South Idaho desert with their first self-titled LP for Melotov Records (USA), Throatruiner Records & Prototype Records (Europe). Bone Dance takes the grime and gravelly glut of the band’s previous work, the self-released Snakecharmers, and reevaluates not only its intensity, but also the band’s heritage: retooling the ferocity of hardcore, the technical acumen of extreme metal, and the minimal gauze of sludge and doom. This is the kind of tight, controlled, anvil-heavy music that only comes out of an area dominated by the Religious Right, the Conservative Coalition, and some of the most culturally repressive mechanisms in America. Bone Dance acts as a document of this inheritance by time and place and on principle rejects all of it. As a combatant to the moderate veneer that glosses even the counterculture in their hometown of Boise, Bone Dance have crafted not a shield but a weapon against the repressive devices they so clearly detest. By deconstructing typical sludge breakdowns, by retooling blast beats into searing grooves, by inverting a biblical poetic into a sinister manifest of their body politic, Bone Dance forges a musical dialogue exemplifying the clash typical of the liberal-conservative head butting seen throughout misleading media; however, the band seems to reject even mainstream leftist views in favor of an utter desert-driven nihilism. Bone Dance proves yet again that the frontier isn’t innovation—the frontier is misery.”

Throw The Goat - 2012 - Black Mountain

"Throw The Goat - a heavy rock/punk/metal band from the mountains of Idyllwild, California. We would really like it if you'd check us out... you might dig our story.
